Customer Acquisition: Finding new customers is a tough challenge for most businesses. Using carefully selected list segments, marketers have often succeeded at finding new customers at an acceptable cost.

Upgrade Sales: This is particularly appropriate for calling programs because the consumer already has a relationship with the client company and is, therefore, usually quite familiar with the nature of the additional product or service being offered.

Customer Retention: Special programs designed to retain current customers can often use the phone profitably. Renewing subscriptions is an example of extending the consumer's relationship with the company.

Market Research: Surveys to customers and non-customers give the marketer a reliable view of consumer attitudes and planned behaviors.
